Escape to Serenity: Discover the Charm of Sundargram in Rajendrapur

Peace is what we strive for and we will help you to reach a destination that I call "Peace". Today's destination is a place where you can zone out from your mundane daily life and exhilarating stress and mental cobwebs that bind you everyday strangling you to give in.

We found a place just 35 km from Kolkata, which is the synonym of 'peace'. A place that assures an experience that will be tattooed for a lifetime.

Started by Paramita Pal and Pranab Pal, Sundargram is a piece of peace just a few kms away from the hustle bustle of the crowd. This isn't an entrepreneurial innovation but an amazing initiative by them, which initially started with the intention of keeping "the conceptualization of a village" alive in their daughter's eyes. Over the time, this place started getting more and more attention from people because it isn't a fancy professional business but a heartfelt initiative that takes us close to our roots.

They say that true intentions always direct us to the best roads and that's the case with Sundargram. The intention of taking us back to our roots has been the biggest catalyst of the growth of this amazing property or Home that deliberately tries to redefine peace every single moment. From hosting the biggest festival of Bengal, Durga Puja and allowing everyone to participate in such a significant cultural festival like their own to hosting different events like Basant Panchami or Holi to constantly create memories for everyone who visits this place.

Sundargram is a place where the pulse of city life harmonizes with the unhurried pace of the countryside, where the relentless rat race fades into the background, allowing you to immerse yourself in the aesthetic and traditional values of days gone by.

But don't let the rustic charm fool you – Sundargram ensures that you have all the comforts of home within its traditional mud cottages. Each mud house is thoughtfully equipped with modern amenities including electricity, a  washroom with a geyser for hot showers, air conditioning to keep you cool on warm summer nights, a mini-refrigerator stocked with refreshments available around the clock, and a luxurious king-size bed adorned with crisp, clean linens for a restful night's sleep.

For our lunch, we had a sumptuous veg thali, a true embodiment of culinary artistry. The fine basmati rice formed the canvas upon which each dish unfolded its flavors. The creamy sona moong dal offered a comforting embrace, while the fulkopi aloor torkari, a cauliflower and potato curry, delighted with its harmonious blend of spices accompanied with jhurjhure aloo bhaja and begun bhaja added a jolt of flavours. Alongside the mainstays were chutney and papad, adding a tangy and crunchy contrast. To satiate our sweet tooth, there was mishti doi, a traditional Bengali sweet yogurt, along with a tantalizing sweet. And as a delightful surprise, the kochi pathar jhol, a tender goat meat curry, served as the perfect add-on, infusing the meal with an extra layer of richness and depth. Each bite was a celebration of Bengali culinary heritage, leaving us satiated and longing for more.

In the evening, we embarked on a delightful excursion to the quaint cafe cum boutique, nestled amidst the rustic charm of the village. Here, our senses were greeted by a kaleidoscope of handmade treasures crafted by skilled village artisans. Each item, imbued with a sense of history and tradition, told its own unique story. From intricately woven baskets to meticulously carved wooden figurines, the craftsmanship on display was nothing short of mesmerizing. Alongside these artisanal delights, a collection of exquisite sarees adorned the walls, showcasing the timeless elegance of Indian textiles. As we perused through the eclectic array of souvenirs, we couldn't help but marvel at the creativity and talent of the local craftsmen. It was a testament to the rich cultural tapestry woven into every aspect of village life, and we left with hearts full of appreciation and bags filled with cherished mementos.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the serene landscape, the pace of village life slowed to a gentle rhythm. In the absence of bustling city lights and distractions, there was a tranquil simplicity that enveloped the surroundings. With darkness descending, the village settled into a peaceful stillness, punctuated only by the occasional chirping of crickets and the rustle of leaves in the evening breeze. In this quietude, there was a sense of contentment found in the simplicity of life. Without the distractions of modern amenities and entertainment, evenings were spent in quiet reflection or in the company of loved ones, sharing stories and laughter under the starlit sky. It was a reminder that sometimes, the most fulfilling moments are found in the quiet moments of connection and contemplation, away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.

The next morning we woke up to the melodious symphony of birdsong, as the morning sun casted a golden hue over the verdant surroundings. Breathing in the earthy aroma of the soil and letting the lush greenery rejuvenate our senses. Sundargram offers not just an escape from the city, but an opportunity to reconnect with the natural world and rediscover the beauty of simplicity.

For a truly authentic experience of the village life, you can try your hand at fishing in the crystal-clear waters of nearby streams or ponds. Feel the thrill of the catch and savor the satisfaction of a simple yet rewarding activity that has been cherished by generations of villagers.
